This painting is inspired by the view in the garden of my French Studio - Les Gaigneres. Towards the back of the Orchard there is a large, old cherry tree, that has a large knot as part of it's trunk. It is quite unusual in its appearance and helps to create the character of the garden, as well as this painting.
