This is one of three paintings inspired by a visit to Henley on Thames, where I spent time on the river bank, painting en plein air, with a view of Temple Island and the river. The title of the work refers to several references to the number 8. The most obvious probably being the eight rowers in a boat, seen rowing up and down the river. The 'Temple' on the island follows a shape which I have adapted to an eightfold star. Finally, the leaf motifs and other shapes appear in clusters of eight.
