This painting is inspired by several visits to Honfleur over 2022 and early 2023 and forms part of my series of River paintings. I sat by the side of the Seine, where the river meets the sea and made preparatory studies in my sketch book using a range of materials to create a mixed media study. I am interested in the relationship between people and nature and the way we as humans have interacted with nature through rivers since the beginning of time. The huge and inspiring Pont de Normandie is not only a feat of engineering but also a thing of beauty and helped to shape the composition of this painting.
