This painting is inspired by a visit to Wakehurst Garden in Sussex, the sister garden to Kew. I spent the afternoon sitting on a bench overlooking the Water Garden, with all its array of magical colours, seemingly wild flowers growing up from the banks of the water, and under the watchful eye of mature trees, creating magical plays of colour as light shone through the branches and on the water.
