This painting is inspired by the Water lily House at Kew Gardens, London. The huge water lilies and the reflections of the ceiling on the inky brown/ black water were an irresistible mix of visual stimulus. Coupled with the beautifully exotic colours, I had great fun painting in my sketch book whilst in the Waterlily House itself, before bringing sketches and preliminary paintings back to the studio to create this final diptych. The two canvases follow the ratio of the Golden Section, with the smaller rectangle being the exact ratio of the larger rectangle formed by the two canvases side by side.
