Inspired by the Colours of the Costa Blanca

Seascapes aren't normally part of my painting practice, but sometimes a landscape is simply impossible to ignore. During a recent visit to Spain's Costa Blanca, I found myself captivated by the extraordinary colours of the Mediterranean — from warm ochres and turquoise to intense Prussian blues.

In this episode of A Colourful Life, I take a minimal painting kit on my walk and begin exploring the view through ink, line and colour. Although the subject is different from my recent garden paintings, I'm approaching it in much the same way: looking for the underlying patterns, structures and rhythms within the natural world.

This initial study is just the beginning, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the experience develops into a larger painting back in the studio.
