Week 24 - Jardin d’Horticulture

Hello and welcome to Helen Alice Johnson Artist in the Garden. This week I am in Chartres, Northern France, in the Jardin d’Horticulture. It’s a botanical garden with lots of trees. There are very few, if any flowers, but a real interesting array of trees, so I’ll take you for a walk around and we’ll have a look.

Branches create interesting marks, sunlight creates a vibrant green in the leaves and the viaduct running through the garden all add to a variety of shape, colour and form.

Yellow ochres slash through the green with the bamboo, whilst suddenly a splash of orange breaks through the green.

Algae forms a beautiful lace on the inky black of the water.

I hope you’ve enjoyed that walk around. Lots of things to think about in terms of colour, mainly because of the few colours to choose from. Lots of greens, inky blacks and some burgundy.

Thanks for watching and I hope to see you next week for a garden somewhere!
