This painting is part of a collection of three paintings inspired by a visit to the River Stour, which runs from Canterbury to Sandwich in Kent. The title of this painting is taken from the Rosebay Willowherb, which grows in abundance along the banks of the river. The Rosebay is also known as Fireweed, due to its unique ability to grow in areas that have been affected by fire.
