This painting is inspired by a visit to Aylesford in Kent, on the banks of the River Medway. The Old Bridge at Aylesford originates from the medieval period around the 14th century, and whilst no longer open to traffic, is still in good working order today. It is a beautiful example of the interaction between people and nature and shows how the influence of natural forces created a whole community along the river bank.
