This painting is inspired by a visit to a beautiful garden in North West France. ‘Jardin L'Interieur a Ciel Ouvert’ is a garden designed by an artist couple, with strong architectural features and a variety of different areas. This particular part of the garden mixed informal colourful planting with architectural box and sculpted shrubs. I sat at a charming wrought iron table and chairs in a sunny corner and worked on ideas in my sketchbook. These were then taken back to my studio and worked into this final painting.
