This painting is inspired by visits to banks of the River Nent between Alston and Nenthead. The wild flat plains around the river are constantly changing and are a haven for birdlife, particularly in early March/ April when the Oyster Catcher is busy preparing for the year ahead. I have used geometric pattern as an underpainting and having captured the Oyster Catcher in flight with my camera, was thrilled to find that the moment of flight showed the perfect arc of the top of a circle. Nature and geometry at work again! The size of the painting is in the ratio of the Golden Section.
