After the Storm, The Sky Listens

Oil on Canvas | Framed Size: 61cm x 112cm

After the Storm, The Sky Listens is an expressive coastal landscape that captures the calm after turbulent weather. Rich layers of oil paint create movement across the rocks, waves and shoreline, while soft, shifting light opens across the sky. The distant architectural ruins perched on the headland introduce a sense of history and storytelling, bringing depth and intrigue to the composition.

This original artwork is professionally finished in a wooden float frame painted in Farrow & Ball Wimborne White, offering a clean, contemporary presentation that suits both modern and traditional interiors.

Inspiration

This painting is inspired by several visits to the North East Coast in Northumberland. I spent time painting by the sea, as well as wandering across the sands, taking in the atmosphere and beach combing for plastic. I used the plastic found on the beach to incorporate into the painting, as a reminder of the importance for us to look after our beautiful world. Sand from the beach has been mixed with the paint to create a textured ruggedness and the triquetra pattern has been taken from the motifs found on the clock tower in Tynemouth.
